18th İstanbul Oral and Dental Health Devices and Equipment Fair IDEX 2023 will be organized in İstanbul with great excitement with the participation of more than 450 local and international firms. The sector will gather in IDEX İstanbul at İstanbul Fair Centre between 25-28 May 2023. The fair which thousands of products and services will be exhibited will be visited by numerous individuals including dentists, dental technicians, academicians, students, suppliers and distributors participating from more than 100 countries.

Boz Medical as the leading firms in Turkey in surgical suture and catgut manufacturing will be in the IDEX 2023 fair. Boz will promote dental sutures, hemostatic agents and surgical meshes throughout the festival and offer special discount and additional advantages after fair for all the visitors who will visit the Boz Medical stands during the fair.

Medica Düsseldorf fair is an important event for those who want to be in the health sector and one of the few commercial health fairs around the world. There was huge interest towards Medica which was organized in Düsseldorf, Germany on 14-17 November 2022 and one of the largest fairs around the world in medical field. The number of visitors in Medica Düsseldorf are increasing every year and the fair includes medical product categories, medical technologies and equipment, laboratory technologies, goods and consumption goods, medication, hospital suppliers, medical information technologies and services.

The fair welcomes tens of thousands of visitors from different nations and hosted more than 4 thousand 500 visitors this year. Medica opens the way to make partnerships and business connections among the professionals from different countries and 230 Turkish company from Türkiye participated to this year. We are in the fair as Boz Medical and we were happy to welcome our visitors in 7A/C15 booth throughout the fair.

We informed our visitors about our surgical sutures and hemostats as well as our new surgical mesh products. We provided information and answered your questions about Reoxcel Snow which is our new haemostat and Reoxcel Powder which is our powder hemostat product.

IDEX İstanbul Fair which is one of the international fairs in oral and dental health area was organized between 26-29 May 2022 for the 17th time in İstanbul Exhibition Centre. The fair gathered more than 30 thousand foreign and local professional buyers from 80 countries including Europe, Middle East, Africa, Commonwealth of Independent States and Balkan countries.

Boz Medical attended to 17th International Oral-Dental Health Devices and Equipment Fair IDEX Istanbul that plays an important role for the development of oral and dental health equipment in Turkey and commercial volume of the sector on 4-D/28 (Hall B) booth.

We have talked to dentists and promoted our dental surgical sutures manufactured specified for the dental area in this 4-day fair. In addition to dentists who have purchased products from us, new local and foreign dentists had the chance to try our dental surgery sutures on training kits.

We were extremely happy to welcome our valuable visitors in our booth in IDEX 2022 fair. As Boz Medical, we hope to see you in IDEX Istanbul fair which will be repeated in 2023.

22. National Surgical Congress and 17. National Surgical Nursing Congress was organized in Antalya between 23-27 March 2022. 22. National Surgical Congress was intense and enjoyable with the participation of experienced surgeons, professors as well as young specialists and assistants around Turkey.

We were happy to welcome surgeons in our booth as Boz Medical during the congress. We introduced our surgical sutures and hemostats to surgeons and professors who visited our booth and informed them about our new products that are surgical meshes and powder hemostat Reoxcel Powder.

In addition to the guidance of experienced surgeons, assistants and young specialist participated to the congress and we as Boz Medical were honored and happy to gather with our surgeons in this congress which we believed that the sessions were beneficial to share knowledge and experience.

Expomed Eurasia which is the leader medical exhibition in Eurasia and followed in Turkey and surrounding countries for 30 years enables the participant firms to make face-to-face meetings in 2022. In addition to the chance to have face-to-face meetings between the participants and visitors, Expomed Eurasia Hybrid+ exhibition had intense interest.

Expomed Eurasia 2022 Exhibition organized on March, 2022 in TÜYAP Exhibition and Congress Centre in TÜYAP for 3 days had intense interest from both local and international firms. More than 600 local and international firms had their stands in the exhibition. The exhibition welcomed 5 thousand international visitors and 19 thousand visitors from Turkey.

We met with our visitors as Boz Medical in stand 6 in hall 641/C. We informed local and foreign visitors about our surgical sutures and hemostats as well as our new surgical mesh products. We also informed the visitors about our new products Reoxcel Powder which is a powder hemostat during the exhibition.

More than 66 thousand people visited AEEDC Dubai Exhibition annually organized in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where dental equipment, materials and dentistry laboratory products are exhibited in 2022 and 3600 firms from different countries opened stands. The exhibition hosted total of 36 firms which 18 national participants from Turkey and hundreds of visitors.

We were at 3 C07 stand as Boz Medical in the exhibition organized between 1-3 February. We promoted our products specially manufactured for the dentistry field to firms in the European, African and Middle Eastern market in the 3-day exhibition. The visitors who visited our stand also had the chance to take a closer look to our products and test them. We offers our solutions and recommendations to different people and needs as Boz Medical during the exhibition.

Dubai AEEDC 2022 exhibition which is an important meeting point for the dental sector was productive for our firm. We gathered with existing and potential customers and we were extremely happy to exchange ideas about our business relationships and products. We would like to thank all our visitors who visited us at AEEDC Dubai 2022 International Dentistry Exhibition. We will continue to welcome our guests at our stands to meet in new exhibitions in the future.

We participated to Arab Health which is the largest medical exhibition of MENA region for medical, medication and health tourism as Boz Medical. There was great interest to Arab Health which is one of the most important exhibitions around the world. The 4-day exhibition hosted total of 138 firms which 35 national participants from Turkey and hundreds of visitors.

We were at H8.A50 stand as Boz Medical and we introduced our surgical sutures, hemostats and surgical meshes manufactured in our own factory. We highlighted our new products Reoxcel Snow, Reoxcel Powder and surgical mesh products on our stand throughout the exhibition. All our products and especially our sutures attracted intense attention from the visitors.

We are proud that our company that manufactures medical devices in the medical field can compete at global level in terms of price and quality. We will continue to manufacture high-quality products to answer the needs in the surgical field and to extend our products to market them around the world to further expand our company in the new period.

Suture is a surgical suture material with different types and dimensions depending on the size, type or region of the wound to offer temporary or permanent wound support by ensuring the control of bleeding, to support wound healing, prevent infection, connect the damaged tissue for planned or unplanned wound damages that might be due to a surgical intervention or a trauma. (3)

Sutures which are known as the surgical sutures are divided into two groups as absorbable and non-absorbable surgical sutures as well as monofilament and multifilament sutures. In our previous article, we have talked about monofilament sutures; in this article, we will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of multifilament sutures which are also known as braided sutures, where these sutures are used and the chemical raw materials in their structures.

What Are Multifilament Sutures?

Multifilament sutures which can have natural or synthetic structures consists of braiding or wrapping multiple filaments. These braided surgical sutures have two types depending on braid or wrapping type; if two filaments are combined and braided, these are called twisted and if more than two filaments are braided, these are called braided. These have capillary property and although the capillary property is reduced with coating, this property cannot be completely eliminated.

What Are the Advantages of Multifilament Sutures?

Multifilament surgical sutures are more durable than monofilament sutures, they are easy to use and they do not get lose easily due to high knot safety. (1) These sutures are flexible, strong, soft and bendable. Also, multifilament sutures have high resistance value and durable against wear. (3)

What Are the Disadvantages of Multifilament Sutures?

Multifilament sutures with absorbable and non-absorbable types are not suitable for wounds with high infection risk as the risk for microbial colonization is high for the sutured tissue. These sutures pass hard from the tissue; since the filaments are braided, there is an increasing friction coefficient as the multifilament suture passes from the tissue and therefore, the damage and reaction risk for the tissue is high. (4) Special coating is used to minimize this problem, to make the passing from the tissue easier and decrease tissue damage. Generally, these sutures are preferred to connect the internal organ tissues after surgical interventions. (4) However, there might be exceptions and surgeons might prefer these sutures for surface tissue depending on the wound structure.

Which Raw Materials Are Used for Multifilament Sutures?

There are lots of different multifilament (braided) surgical sutures which include Polyglycolic acid (PGA), Poly Glycolide Lactic Acid (PGLA), Polyester (PET) and natural silk consisting of an organic polymer called fibroin.

What Is The Chemical Structure of Non-Absorbable Multifilament Sutures?

The chemical structure of the non-absorbable braided sutures include polyester raw material consisting of ethylene tetraflate as coating material. An organic polymer called fibroin is used for natural non-absorbable surgical sutures.

What Is The Chemical Structure of Absorbable Multifilament Sutures?

The chemical structure of the absorbable sutures include synthetic manufactured from 100% polyglycolic acid. For the special coating material of braided surgical filaments, a mixture of Calcium Stearate and Polycaprolactone or Poly (Glycolide Lactide) (30/70) is used. Fast absorbable braided sutures are degraded with gamma for fast hydrolysis/absorption and gamma radiation is used for the sterilization.

What Is The Chemical Structure of Antibacterial Absorbable Multifilament Sutures?

To prevent bacteria formation after connecting the tissue with surgical intervention, antibacterial multifilament (braided) surgical sutures can be preferred in some cases. Since the chance for braided surgical sutures to have microorganisms is higher than a monofilament suture consisting of a single suture, the absorbable sutures can be made antibacterial. To do that, chlorhexidine diacetate (CHA) agent which is a large spectrum anti-bacterial agent with no more than 60 mg/m in the chemical structure gives the antibacterial effect.

Any surgical filaments used for connecting or stitching blood vein ligation or tissues is called suture and the name of this term comes from Latin. Surgical sutures are divided into two groups as absorbable and non-absorbable sutures as well as monofilament and multifilament sutures. In this article, we will answer what is monofilament suture, what are the advantages and disadvantages, where are these sutures used and what are the structural properties?

What Are The Monofilament Suture Usage Areas?

Monofilament sutures are often used for open wounds such as contaminated wounds and irregular, uneven, recessed wound; traumatic wounds caused by a crushing tool or blunt trauma as well as for cosmetic purposes. (3, 4)

What Are the Advantages of Monofilament Sutures?

Monofilament sutures consist of single filament (twist), are not braided such as multifilament sutures, can easily pass from tissues due to low friction due to smooth texture as it consist of a single filament, causes minimum tissue trauma and causes less reaction. Since these are not braided, there are no gaps for bacteria formation and therefore, the risk for microbial colonization is extremely low. (1) Monofilament sutures with natural or synthetic structure have polypropylene, PDO, stainless steel wire and natural silk structure.

What Are the Disadvantages of Monofilament Sutures?

Since monofilament sutures consist of a single-row material, they have simple structure and have lower resistance. To give more detail, they have low know safety and lose most of their tension when help with a tool. When absorbable and non-absorbable types are compared, the half-life and resistance might differ. What Is The Chemical Structure of Non-Absorbable Monofilament Sutures?

As mentioned above, non-absorbable monofilament sutures have polypropylene, PDO, stainless steel wire and natural silk structures. The materials in the chemical structures are synthetic linear polyolefin, polyvinylidene difluoride polymer, Nylon 6 or Nylon 6,6 or 100% Polytetrafluoroethylene consisting of from the stereoisomer of the isotactic crystal of polypropylene. An organic polymer called fibroin is in natural types. Stainless steel wire version is preferred for orthopaedic procedures such as abdominal wound closure, hernia or tendon operations.

What Is The Structure of Absorbable Monofilament Sutures?

As the name suggest, absorbable monofilament sutures are absorbed by the body within a certain time and disappear in the tissue; although the absorption time differs, the absorption duration is longer than braided multifilament sutures. The synthetic materials in the chemical structure are glycolide, co-caprolactone and 100% polydioxanone. The types that use animal-based raw materials use purified sheep small intestine submucosal fibrosis tissue.

What Is The Structure of Antibacterial Absorbable Monofilament Sutures?

The chemical structure of the antibacterial sutures that underwent a special sterilization process to avoid bacteria colonization on the sutured tissue when the tissues with surgical intervention is antibacterial due to Broad spectrum antibacterial agent chlorhexidine diacetate (CHA) with not more than 60mg/m2 in the chemical structure.
