FASTLAK

Fast Absorbable Surgical Suture (PGLA)

Fastlak suture is flexible, synthetic, absorbable, sterile surgical suture consisting of copolymer synthesised from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide (gylcolide and lactide acid derivatives). Empirical formula of copolymer is (C₂H₂O₂)m(C₃H₄O₂)n. Multifilament suture is formed by combining fibres by braiding. Fastlak is a form of gamma degraded PGL or PGL with lower molecular weight to provider faster hydrolysis/absorption.

Coating material of Fastlak suture is prepared with equal amount of calcium stearate and 30% glycolide and 70% lactide mixture. Since Fastlak suture is used on living organisms, it is absorbable and cause no irritation.

Fastlak surgical suture is manufactured with or without stainless steel needle, with different lengths, and between USP 80 and 2 (metric: 0.4-5). This suture is manufactured with natural colour (colourless).
